OLM MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR RESIGNS By Ben Browne

The president of the Organization of Liberians in Minnesota (OLM), Mrs. Martha Sinoe has received the resignation of Mr. Arvin Jallah from the position of Membership Committee Chairman. In a letter dated August 10, 2006, copy of which was received by Bush Chicken, Mr. Jallah said, "I am writing to inform you of my resignation as chairman of the membership committee."

What prompted the urgent decision is not clear but some insiders say this comes as a result of Mr. Jallah's committee budget being put on a back burner. Since his appointment, Mr. Jallah is said to have received less support in getting the needed funds that will help him do his work properly to attract the many Liberians in the community who are sceptical of becoming active due paying members of OLM.

"The decision is based on my personal conviction," Mr.  Jallah said further in his letter. However, what those personal convictions are may not be clear at this time but one committee head I talked to said it was a good way of sugar coating frustrations. Mr. Jallah is one of those who worked hard in getting Mrs. Sinoe to the presidency.

It is believed that it was due to his hard work and dedication that he was rewarded the position.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Publicity, Mr. Gboyee Seeyon says the position will be occupied in the matter of weeks. "The President have received the two line resignation of Mr. Jallah and will be appointing some one to the position in a few weeks," Seeyon told me when I asked him to comment on the resignation.

However, he refused to be quizzed any further because according to him Bush Chicken reported a news story recently where some board members were quoted but are denying it. It can be recalled that recently Bush Chicken reported about the joint meeting between the executive and board members of OLM where some board members and the Vice President were quoted but since the publication of the story, a member of the board have called on Bush Chicken to retract the story for the "Good " of the community but Bush Chicken have continuously said it stands by the story and  is willing to publish any rebuttal from OLM but up to press time such rebuttal have not been received.

It can also be recalled that in June of this year, the senior advisor to the executive, Mr. Kerper Dwanyen resigned his post. At that time it was rumored that the Vice President was contemplating his resignation due to policy differences.

Meanwhile, frantic efforts are underway to prepare for the Sunday Town Hall Meeting by the OLM to be held at the Bethel World Outreach Church.  The Town Hall Meeting which has already been postponed before is currently more anticipated by the community than the 26th celebrations held a few weeks ago.
